through the years …

As one passes through the bustling town Vadakkencherry , attention will be captured by a fabulous institution glistening like blue bell flower. It’s CHERUPUSHPAM G.H.S.S standing out as the beacon for the village damsels of the locality from the past several decades. This school was founded and subsequently run by Holy Family Sisters of Marian Province, Palakkad which is a branch of Holy Family Congregation founded by Saint Mariam Thresia in the year 1914. Her mission was to uplift the morale of the families and this is being carried out by reaching out to the families through students.

In 1959 , Holy Family sisters laid foundation to their convent at Vadakkencherry in Palakkad district. Mother Isabel was the person who showed great courage to start a school for the girls in this locality. The dream of the people of Vadakkencherry for an abode of learning came into limelight when the school started functioning in the year 1964. In the beginning this school was led by Rev.Sr.Thomasia for five months. After that in October 1964 Rev.Sr.Blandina took hold of the rein of this institution and piloted it through right path. As the Headmistress of this institution, she moulded and developed it with her stern mind and tender hands. Later Rev.Sr. Bede took charge as the Headmistress from the year 1987 and glorified it during her period. Then for 19 years from the year 1989, Rev.Sr. Anny Maria steered the office of Cherupushpam first as Headmistress and later as Principal. Her judicious and meticulous management and ardent spirit gave full life and strength to the school which in turn helped this institution to reach the peak of its fame and to adorn with several laurels through out her regime.

In 1997 Pre-degree course was de-linked from colleges and made a part of High school education. God Almighty has blessed and upgraded our school to Higher secondary school with two Science batches and one Humanities   batch.   Later   one   Computer   batch   was   also   added in

……Altogether there are 31 teaching staff in the High School section and

22 teaching staff in the Higher secondary section. In addition to that we have 5 and 4 non-teaching staff in High School and Higher Secondary Section respectively.

From 2006 administration of the school was divided. Mrs. Marykutty Sebastian became Headmistress of the school in the year 2006-07. After that Mrs. M. A. Mary took hold of the office during 2007-2010 and effectively completed her duties with a dedicated and zealous mind. followed by Rev Sr Lilly Anto rendered her selfless service to the school in 2010-2011.  Now the Highschool section is monitored by young and energetic Headmistress Rev.Sr. Sobha Rose from 2011 onwards. Her hardwork and commitment is the reason for the envious position of the school in the Palakkad district . The more is yet to come .

Rev.Sr. Manjula with her long years of teaching experience became an efficient Principal and lead Cherupushpam in year 2008 – 09 with several memorable moments to last. The school under the Principalship of Rev.Sr. Valsa Therese during 2009-2016 completed many enviable projects.The construction of the vast School auditorium has rendered our students a safe place outside classrooms to conduct various programmes without the fear of heat and rain. Now the school is under the leadership of the gifted Principal Rev.Sr.Roslin Mathew brimming with innovative ideas. She wants to provide the best to the students. Every day she comes forth with novel projects to enhance and equip students and teachers. Our faculty is our strength.  They tirelessly work for the betterment of

each and every student of the school . The management keeps the teachers close to their heart like the members from a single family .In order to bind the families of the staff ,a get together `Koinonia ` is arranged at intervals . Another reason for the glorious position of our school is the strong PTA.

With the advent of Higher Secondary, new blocks were added to the institution. We have spacious rooms and amenities as per the government order for the higher secondary students. Our infrastructure also includes 6 science labs, 2 computer rooms, 2 libraries, 2 reading rooms, media rooms and other educational facilities. The outset of Hi-Tec era has transformed us also. All the classrooms are provided with Laptops, projectors and smart boards. These smart classes have really revolutionized education where a student experiences what she is learning. In addition to these we have a counseling cell handled by a qualified counsellor to tackle various problems of teenage girls. Every year we conduct different orientation programmes and moral classes for students, teachers and parents.We believe that education is not confined to learning from texts only. Our girls are provided with all the facilities which help them soar high in the sky.  It is with this vision that we introduced Taekwondo, Karate and Yoga in the school curriculum . The introduction of communicative English classes has helped to remove the inhibition of students to communicate in English. Various programmes initiated by NSS,Guides and JRC have moulded our students to be socially responsible citizens .

The year 2019 is special to us as we were able to build a house to one of our student with the money collected from social service month on October.The most coveted prize which we won in the year 2019 is

First position in Palakkad istrict with the cash prize of 50000 for the

activities by KITE. One of our student Sreya Sreedhar S of 8^th standard will participate in National level Yoga Competitions 2020 and later in Olympics also .

When we go back to the academic history of Cherupushpam, we are grateful that God has also blessed us to achieve the following ranks.

The last rank of the school won by Dhanya Shankar raised the fame of the institution to its zenith. Another feather was added to the glory of Cherupushpam school when it was selected as the ‘Best School’ in the Alathur Sub District in March 2008.Our students actively participate in various co-curricular activities such as Youth festival, Guiding, Club activities, Sports, Work experience, DCL and KCSL activities, Kinnari etc. They have reached national level in sports, State and District level in Youth festival, Maths, Science and Social science activities. The charisma of our students has reached far and wide. We are very proud to know that our students now adorn the position of a doctor, engineer, professor, an entrepreneur etc.

It is indeed a wonderful sight to see our girls clad in binny blue and white attire. The freedom that they experience here is enviable .They simply chill out during Onam, School Youth festivals, Cherpushpam day,

X`Mas etc. Most of our students come back to their Alma Mater cherishing their fond memories in this school .

Our school is steadily progressing with a profound and significant vision and mission. Our vision is to convey God of love and mission is to redeem houses through children and inspire them to serve the society. The year 2019 is a milestone in the history of Holy Family Congregation. Mother Mariam Thresia ,the foundress of the Holy Family Congregation was canonized as Saint on October 13, 2019 .She stands as a beacon showering blessings for all our endeavours .

Cherupushpam school is true to its mission. She with her widely opened hands welcome all those who come in search of learning. She with much concern enrich, encourage and look after them like a loving mother and make the girls ready to face this technosavvy world. With a profound vision, the school is a proud testimony to the sacrifice and service of the management, Staff, PTA and well-wishers who have dedicated their time, money and energy to nurture its growth from a small seedling. Now the seedling has grown up into a big tree giving shelter to many under the shade of our patroness-Saint Little Flower.
